McCartney teaching bass.

Want some instruction in playing the bass guitar?

How about if it was from Sir Paul McCartney?

Well, the Bass Master himself shows off a little of his playing technique in this video from a few years back.

He's playing one of his Hofner 500/1 models, the vintage bass guitar he made famous when he was with the Beatles.

Strange looking bass guitars

I guess you can make a bass guitar out of anything and make it look any way you want.

Some of these are pretty cool, others are downright ugly.

Check it out.

When you're finished viewing the video come on over to Vintage Bass Guitar to see what the classic basses looked like.

Bass Guitar and Super Mario Bros.

Do you like video games?

Do you like Super Mario Bros?

Do you like the theme to Super Mario Bros?

Do you like electric bass guitars?

Have you ever seen an 11 string electric bass guitar?

Have you ever seen someone play the Super Mario Bros. theme on an 11 string electric bass guitar?

If you answered no to the last question then watch the video and the next time someone asks you that question you can say "of course I have"

After you watch the video, why don't you visit me at Vintage Bass Guitar.  I promise, no Mario Bros.

Bass guitar & classical music

The electric bass guitar, invented in 1935 by Paul Tutmarc, turns 75 years old in 2010.

Now when you hear the term electric bass guitar what do you think of?

Do you think of great bass players like Jaco Pastorius, John Entwistle and Victor Wooten?

Perhaps you associate it with a type of music like Blues, Jazz or Rock.

Would you ever associate it with Mozart? After watching this video you just might.

If you're interested in the history and value of classic bass guitars, come visit me at Vintage Bass Guitar.

"Godfather of Bass Guitar" dies

I just learned about the death of Robert Wilson, one of three brothers who founded the Gap Band.

It didn't seem to make much of a splash on the TV news or in newspapers, which is sad, but anyone nicknamed the "Godfather of Bass Guitar" was obviously a talented musician and he died all too soon.

Here is a short article on the death of Robert Wilson.

We here at Vintage Bass Guitar send out our condolences to his brothers Ronnie and Charlie and to the entire Wilson family.
